Why is it that I feel the need to mute one friend’s epic camping journey (in their new by hand/custom built camper van) across state lines with nearly 80 photos (starring their gorgeous, super-smart, and talented kids) and extended timeline, but then assiduously scroll through another’s and “love” every other photo?
I would
say that they are both equal in nearly every way… except one. The focus.
The big question my mind is: is the focus mine or is it theirs? The
friend that I follow blows up photos of her fabulously messy children
and their gloriously sloppy play. Their wide smiles is the byline of
the mountains and streams and they attest to the fun they are having. The
sleepy hugs with grandma and grandpa are obviously not shared often. She
has included herself occasionally looking so real and like me that I
just absolutely love her for it.
The friend I’ve muted has led her post with the (extreme) length and
breadth of their trip done in their (obviously swank and expensive)
refurbed camper van, followed by 76 photos of tree-hugging and
artistically exposed epic landscapes of her clean, tidy, teenagers (sans
mom for the most part).
Unfollowed friend rubs me wrong enough to just be over it. My problem? or is it them?
I know I’m feeling jealous. But I also know Unfollowed Friend and her fam likes to brag and be in the spotlight (through long experience with them). Which annoys me personally.
To be fair, social media is the place to brag. I should just get over it
and be supportive of Unfollowed Friend living her best life. She is my
friend for a reason. Lots of reasons.
